Wedding Wednesday | Connie Wang | A New Orleans Wedding
We loved being a part of Connie and Andrew’s destination wedding in New Orleans last October. They had a unique rooftop ceremony followed by an indoor reception at the Capulet. Their special day was captured perfectly by Tasha Rae Photography.
THE PROPOSAL:
How did you meet?
We met on Bumble! I had taken a two year hiatus from work to backpack around the world, and had just gotten back to the states. A girlfriend recommended I download Bumble, and Andrew was the very first person I ever met on Bumble. His photos caught my eye because he had a picture of himself with Jiro, the famous Japanese sushi chef from "Jiro dreams of Sushi" and I was dying to ask him how he met him.
The Proposal
Apparently Andrew had the ring for quite some time (>4 months), and was having a hard time picking the right moment to propose. I found out in hindsight that my ring was incredibly well-traveled, as he brought it along on a fall trip we took to Aspen, as well as a Thanksgiving trip throughout Egypt (through some pretty questionable locales!). After having it tag along with us for months, he ended up proposing a couple days before Christmas at home - he brought out a bottle of champagne I'd gifted him as a housewarming present in the first month we were dating. I'd instructed him to save it for a special occasion, and he'd saved it for that moment, while we were exchanging gifts in our new home with our dog.
WEDDING PREP:
Connie and her bridal party prepared for the big day at The Jung Hotel and Residences in New Orleans. All the ladies wore precious floral PJs from J.Crew and Target. Connie’s bridal party each got a special gift to fit their unique personalities - some got North Face fleeces, other got custom shoes (Vans/Allbirds), travel bags, etc.
Tina with Verde Beauty Studio gave Connie a moderly chic look with her perfectly polished updo. She was absolutely flawless with her glowing skin and beautifully shaded smoke eye.
THE ATTIRE:
Connie’s beautiful wedding gown was a J Mendel "Adelaide" that she purchased from Little White Dress in Denver, CO. Connie accessorized with a beautiful Kendra Scott bracelet and fabulous Badgley Mischka heels. Andrew wore a tuxedo and shoes from The Black Tux.
THE DETAILS:
What made you choose where you got married?
We live in Denver, and knew we wanted a celebration at a unique, memorable location (most of our guests are all over the US, anyway!). I booked Capulet sight unseen because I loved the combo of outdoor/indoor space (rooftop ceremony, indoor reception)
What were your special details or parts of the wedding that were specific to you?
Andrew and I are obsessed with our dog Moose, so we incorporated him into as many details as possible: invites, custom cocktail (Moscow Moose), seating chart, table signs, custom cutout, etc. We also themed our tables with Moose dressed up as Harry Potter
What did you choose to do as your favors?
Personalized laser-cut names of all our guests that also served as the seating chart, as well as second line handkerchiefs
Did you incorporate any wedding traditions from you or your partners families?
My parents are originally from Taiwan, so we incorporated an abbreviated Chinese tea ceremony into our ceremony - Andrew and I served tea to our parents as a symbol of respect and gratitude for all their years of support. I also changed into my mom's traditional Chinese dress (xipao) that she wore at her wedding to my dad 40+ years before.
ADVICE FOR FUTURE BRIDES:
What is one thing you wish you would have known pre-wedding?
We were initially too selective with our guest list, as we worried about costs - in the end, there are so many costs that come with a wedding that we wished we would have invited more people! Truly, the more the merrier.

Words of Advice for future brides?
Choose the top 3-5 things you care about most (photography, food, decor, etc.) - allocate some additional funds to these areas for the vendors you want most, but try and save that budget in all other areas. Your guests will be having so much fun that nobody even notices most of the other things!
Also, we hired a pedicab for our second line for Andrew's 93-year old grandmother so she could partake - it was the best money we ever spent! She had a blast!
